Leopard-saver contest entry
Alena ran through the forest with her mother, feeling the wind stream through her fur. She could run like this forever! But, as always, her mother stopped by a small stream, a place which Alena had come to know as Bear Brook. In the summer Alena would sit and watch her mother, called Svenia, fish for salmon as they literally leapt into your paws. But it was winter now, and the river had frozen over.
"mother, why does the river freeze over in winter?" asked Alena, as she touched a paw to the ice.
